Constipation during Pregnancy and How to Prevent It

Pregnancy process can cause many changes to organ system activities. One of them is digestion system. Sometimes, the change can cause constipation. To prevent and solve constipation problem during pregnancy is by consuming much fiber food, especially fruit and vegetable. Fiber foods can be classified as carbohydrate, but it can’t be absorbed, so it will be taken out again with feces. Fiber can’t be absorbed by body because it can’t be hydrolyzed by digestion enzyme. Fibers can be categorized in 2 types, water absorber and water unabsorber fibers. Water Absorber fibers such as legumes, apple, pear, cereals, and havermut. While water unabsorber fibers such as carrot, wheat bread, red rice, tomatoes, papaya, and cucumber.
Fiber which can prevent constipation is water unabsorber fiber. This fiber will make feces so hard, because can absorb water it contains. Volume of “feces” become bigger will stimulate muscles contraction and push “feces” going out. Beside fiber, consuming much water is also more helpful. Don’t forget to do sport activities like walking or others. These activities stimulate muscle rectum to push “feces” going out. So you can avoid constipation problem.

Unnatural Fiber: giving benefit or no?
At present, many various beverage products contain high fiber. Everyone who consumes the product wants to prevent constipation during pregnancy. But, the problem is whether the products are useful or not for pregnant women. The beverages are made from extract plant, but water absorber. Those beverages actually have few benefit, just a little help to prevent constipation during pregnancy. Because the body needs water unabsorber fiber that come from vegetables and fruits. Don’t consume those beverages if you haven’t eaten yet, and also don’t consume fiber too much. Because, fiber will absorb other nutrient substance such as vitamin and mineral which are needed in the body of pregnant women.
