Recently, the genetic United States‘ experts have identified a super gen caused breast cancer becomes metastatic. Metastatic is a spreading process of cancer’s cells into other human organs.

The super gen is called SATB 1. The experts called this gen as regulator master. “Gen SATB 1 changes the behaviors at least 1.000 other gens in cancer cells,” the experts stated in the Nature journal.

According to this study, if SATB 1 is over activated, the cancer cells will quickly spread. On the contrary, if the gen is being neutralized, the cancer cells will stop to breed and immigrate. “That’s why, SATB 1 will become the main target in this cancer therapy,” Termuni Kohwi-Shigematsu said from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratorium in Berkeley, California, the head of that study.

This invention, Shigematsu continued, is not only promising diagnose manner that could lead the shape of the disease spreading. “This invention is also promising medical development to invent alternative medicine for breast cancer to become metastatic, even heals cancer in the metastatic stadium,” he explained.

So far, the experts still cannot predict whether the cancer cells in a cancer will invade the nearest cells or move to other organs (through blood circulation system) and formed secondary cancer. “SATB 1 cancer is considered as a sign. A cancer with active SATB 1 is 99.9% becomes metastatic, and spread,” Shigematsu said.

Metastatic is noted as the biggest cause of death among cancer patients. Less from 10% of women in metastatic breast cancer are able to stay alive in 10 years and less than 25% are able to stay alive in 5 years.

Normally, the role of SATB 1 is organizing gens, especially gens in dealing with T-cells which have important role in the immune system. It is recognized from previous research held by Kohwi-Shigematsu in 1990’s.
