Epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes
With levels of obesity, the epidemic of type 2 diabetes is growing at an alarming rate, and only gets worse.
Between 2001 and 2002, diagnosis of diabetes increased from 5.5 per cent of Americans to an alarming 6.5 per cent. In just one year!
Totally, twelve million Americans were diagnosed and another 5 million Americans have diabetes. And another 12 million are in the process of type 2 diabetes because of impaired glucose levels.
Not knowing is the worst, because the risks of non diabetes, we are at a terrible risk of complications including but not limited to blindness, amputations and finally death.
The stickler is that type 2 diabetes is almost entirely preventable. Doctors say “eat less, eat better and exercise”. The figures show how many Americans are currently overweight.
Statistically, people are now living longer, and he has been on the rise for years. But this will not continue if Type 2 diabetes is not brought under control.
We are a greedy society and, ultimately, it is touching how we live, and how long we live.
And unfortunately, the epidemic of diabetes is not only the United States issue. It is spreading throughout the world with the epidemic in the report, epidemic of diabetes spreads in Asia, Middle East and Caribbean.
It is estimated that by 2025 the number of diabetics in the world increase to 380 millions. And diabetes is now affecting younger and middle age in the population of developing countries between the ages of 40 to 59.

Wow. I’m working on behalf of diabetes awareness - In fact, 24 million Americans today have diabetes, and most don’t even know it! The National Diabetes Goal is that “By 2015, 45% of Americans who are at risk
for type 2 diabetes will know their blood glucose level and what actions to take.” A new PSA, featuring actress Jean Smart, encourages people to go get their blood sugar level tested. It can be found on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyK3JZ46s20.
